Kalyan 'Bomber' Singh

Britian’s fist Sikh family to run a haulage company began operations 50 years ago, and they are still lorry mad – despite diversifying into other professions ranging from barrister to Elvis Presley impersonator!

Barrister, air-raid warden in World War Two Birmingham, door-to-door salesman, policeman, fish and chip shop proprietor, menswear business owner, beautician, demolition contractor, corner shopkeeper… and Elvis impersonator. Goodness knows what would have happened if they revived Ask The Family on television and the Singhs were asked to list their professions over the years. It would take a whole programme.

The Companies Past

Digway is the current chapter of an epic journey started by a working class Sikh immigrant; Kalyan Singh Digwa (black & white photo of Grandad –) now spanning over four generations and combining over 70 years experience in Construction & Demolition Waste Recycling and Muckshifting.

Having weathered the ups and downs of a turbulent industry which has seen many household  names become victims of their own success – Carillion, A. Monk, Hewden Plant, J.Murphy, Wrekin Construction to name but a few, Digway’s family focused ethos and client transparency has enriched its passion for the industry and remain passionate about the sector.

The Next Generation

The Singh history of innovation and hard work looks set to continue into yet another generation. Gary took over the business, while still doing some council work and tipper haulage.

Gary hopes his two sons, Barry and Andy, who are now graduated, will run the haulage side of the business alongside Kushy and Asha who are big lorry fan and believe it or not Asha’s ambition as a child was “I want to be Britian’s first Indian woman HGV driver!”.
